Heart disease and stroke is a cardiovascular disease that affects many people. The body actually has a natural way to prevent heart disease such as heart attack to stroke, with the production of nitric oxide (NO).

The role of NO in the body is examined by Louis Ignarro who eventually won the Nobel Prize for his research. After researching NO for about five years, in 1986, Louis found that NO is actually present in the human body, is one of them produced in the arteries and veins.

In laboratory studies, Louis found that the presence of NO could open up the blood vessels wider so that it can lower blood pressure.

"After that, we know that nitric oxide can prevent blood vessel blockage. From this research, we finally found a molecule that can prevent the occurrence of strokes and heart attacks," said Louis.

However, the production of NO in the body will decrease with age. The best way to maintain production of NO in the body is to maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise. In his research, when a person is active, NO production will be higher. NO level was decreased dramatically when a person sleeps.

Other natural way, to raise the level of NO, is by eating healthy foods. For example, avoid the consumption of fatty foods such as meat and eating more vegetables and fruits rich in antioxidants. "People do not know that antioxidants can increase NO in the body," said Louis.
